“World Festival of Afro Art and Culture-Festival Mundial de Arte y Cultura Afro”
The “KURRULAO” as a cultural event was born in Tumaco-Nariño-Colombia as an endeavor initiated by Mr. Julio Cesar Montaño Montenegro on December 7, 1987 named Kurrulao Festival. The goal was to promote the music and dances of the afro descent in the Colombian-Ecuadorian Pacific coast. After 3 years, the event grew into the Kurrulao International festival. Later from a need to integrate all expressions of afro descents living in the Pacific the name changed to Kurrulao and Pacific Music International Festival. Since its birth in Tumaco, twelve festivals have been celebrated with the last one on December 5th -7th, 2008.
