“World Festival of Afro Art and Culture-Festival Mundial de Arte y Cultura Afro”
In 2005, Mr. Montano moved to the US and the festival in Tumaco started to lose its strength until the event stopped. In an effort to provide continuity to the festival, in May of 2009 Mr. Montano invited a group of new friends to assist him with the rebirth of the festival in Evanston. There, far away from the wetlands of the Pacific coast of Colombia called “Mangleria”, Kurrulao was reborn with a strongly felt cause of making visible the afro descents rooted in the US along with the celebration of the emancipation of the last slaves in the USA (June 19, 1865). The first Kurrulao took place on June 18th, 2010.
